EMERGENCY SERVICES PROGRAM AT THE BRIDGE FOR YOUTH

The heartbeat of The Bridge for Youth since it opened has been our emergency crisis shelter. More than 35,000 youth have come through the doors at 2200 Emerson Avenue South and found safety and support.

When youth are experiencing a crisis, when families are in conflict, immediate intervention can often ameliorate and prevent future problems. Our telephone and walk-in crisis services address this critical need.

Sometimes youth are not safe at home or a family simply needs a respite while they are working out problems. Our therapeutic shelter program provides a safe, temporary time-out for youth and families experiencing serious conflicts.

Our shelter is staffed around the clock and runs on a daily schedule, including chores, group activities, case planning, counseling, and goal setting. Daily themes are used to address topics such as self-esteem, conflict resolution, communication, families, chemical health, sexual health, culture and diversity.

Youth create their own care plans together with trained counseling staff, identifying their goals and steps to take to improve their situation. Family meetings may take place throughout their stay, for family members to develop shared goals for the future and plan for the youth's return home when possible. When returning home is not viable for the young person, we find alternatives such as extended family, foster care, treatment, transitional or independent living.

We’re accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
