Intern and Volunteer Opportunities at The Bridge for Youth

Volunteer Opportunities

Computer Lab/Resource Room Tutor

Provide assistance to youth working with a variety of desktop applications software programs, internet usage and safety. The computer lab is open for youth living in the transitional living program, while the computer resource room is open for all youth involved with Bridge programs. Available hours: days, evenings and weekends.

Independent Living Skills Specialist

Provide learning assistance to youth regarding independent living skills. You can focus on a variety of skills, including financial management, employment skills, educational support and household maintenance. You may work with individual youth or with small groups of youth in the transitional living program. Available hours: evenings and weekends.

Community Living Specialist

Build a sense of community through facilitating recreational activities and celebrations for youth living in the transitional living program. Work with youth regarding stress management, communication skills and conflict resolution. Favorite activities include birthday celebrations, game night or arts groups. You will also provide support to the supervision of the house. Available hours: evenings and weekends.

Youth and Family Counselor

Assist the counseling staff in providing care and treatment of youth in a residential/group living environment, and crisis intervention for youth and families.  Must be at least 21 years of age.  Must be able to work a minimum of one 8-hour shift per week to complete a total of 400 hours.

Cooking Tutor

Share your skills in planning a menu, budgeting and preparing meals with youth living in the transitional living program. You could prepare Sunday dinner with the housemates; work with individual youth to plan and prepare meals during the week, or help prepare meals ahead, such as weekday lunches. Available hours: evenings and weekends.

Wellness Coach

Teach and support youth in building healthy lifestyles through nutrition and exercise. Develop programming for potential fitness space. Youth have requested support in making healthy choices and learning new skills. Wellness strategies also include stress management. Available hours: evenings and weekends.

Administrative Support

Provide basic office assistance to the volunteer program supervisor. Prepare information packets for mailing; enter data; make copies; file. Available hours: days and evenings.

Internship Opportunities

For undergraduate and graduate students, we have a number of available internship opportunities.  We offer excellent training and supervision to help you gain counseling experience and achieve your educational goals.  Learn the field of youth work inside out including counseling youth and families, leading groups and doing intakes. 

Youth and Family Counselor

    • Actively participate with and supervise youth in daily routines.

    • Help develop therapeutic treatment plans for individual clients and/or implementation of these

       plans.

    • Co-facilitate group therapy sessions and/or daily peer groups.

    • Observe family therapy sessions.

Qualifications:

   • Must be at least 21 years of age. 

   • Must be able to work a minimum of two 8-hour shifts per week to complete a total of 400 hours.

 

Family Counselor

The Family Counselor Intern is directly responsible for providing family crisis counseling, and ongoing family therapy.  The Family Counselor Intern is available to the Emergency Shelter Program for intervention with youth and families. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide counseling, information and referral over the phone.

    • Conduct client assessments ans intake interviews.

    • Provide crisis counseling to youth and families.

    • Actively participate with and supervise youth in daily routines.

    • Help develop therapeutic treatment plans for individual clients and/or implementation of these

       plans.

    • Co-facilitate group therapy sessions and/or daily peer groups.

    • Observe family therapy sessions.

Qualifications:

   • Must be at least 21 years of age. 

   • Must be participating in a Master's degree program in psychology, social work or related field. 

   • Must be able to work two 8-hour shifts per week to complete a total of 400 hours.
