The Bridge Center for Youth Opening
The Bridge Center for Youth officially opened its doors on June 5, 2008 ushering in an exciting new chapter in our history.
The Bridge Center for Youth offers a welcoming space for our homeless youth programs, including 19 new transitional housing beds. The Center creates warm, inviting spaces for lounging and recreation, a fully-equipped computer area, kitchen and laundry facilities, and quiet meeting rooms. The Bridge Center for Youth also houses administrative offices and conference rooms, and will eventually consolidate offices from several older rented houses on the block.
With design by Cermak Rhoades Architects, The Bridge Center for Youth features colors that are warm and inviting, evoking a homey, rather than institutional, ambience. Colorful furnishings have been donated by Commercial Furniture Services, Target Corporate Interiors, Carlson Marketing, Carlson Hotels and John Heidinger.
We would also like to acknowledge the tremendous time and commitment of staff members who made this project possible: former Executive Director Ed Murphy, Associate Director Michele Connelly, Finance Director Todd Jeffers, and Capital Development Coordinator Margaret Miles.
We also extend gratitude to the neighbors who have supported us all these years and the Kenwood Neighborhood Association, East Isles Neighborhood Association and the Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association.
The Bridge is the only 24-hour runaway and homeless youth program in a residential setting in the metropolitan region. We will continue to operate our Emergency Services Program at The Bridge’s 2200 Emerson Avenue South building where we’ve been since 1975.
