Position Information

Position:  Youth & Family Advocate
Job Type:  Full Time Regular
Classification:  Non-Exempt

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing direct services to youth and families that are coping with crises while operating within a framework of agency philosophy and goals.  The ideal candidate will have the skills and compassion necessary for building the capacity of youth and families toward increasing their overall sense of well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, supervision, guidance and milieu therapy to youth.
  • Develop specialized program plans for youth.
  • Co-facilitate and lead group sessions with youth.
  • Provide screenings for services, administer assessments and intake services, document and report abuse (when necessary), and complete required file work for youth entering the shelter program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or final year of B.A. program in psychology, social work, or related human services field and/or two years of experience working with youth.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (preferred). Bi-lingual (preferred).
  • Must clear a background check.

Youth Response Specialist

Position Information

Position:             Youth Response Specialist
Job Type:             Part-Time
Classification:    Non- Exempt
Reports to:          Intern/Volunteer & YRC Manager

Position Overview

Attend to the 24/7/365 crisis line and 400-SAFE as well as other immediate needs in the communications center. The staff in this position will provide immediate response, crisis counseling and referrals to BFY and outside services as appropriate. Hours for this position are Sunday 8a-4p, Thursday 1p-3p (3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month), Saturday 2p-10p.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer the crisis phone line in a customer friendly manner
  • Provide crisis counseling over the phone
  • Respond to text messages in a timely manner, following policies and procedures
  • Offer resources and referrals to other service providers based on individual need
  • Provide mentorship for community volunteers including shadowing observing, and providing feedback
  • Complete, track and document program crisis calls and text conversations
  • Incorporate awareness of the gender, cultural, racial, social, sexual, and economic context of the persons seeking services.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: H.S. Diploma and two years of experience working with youth in crisis.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree of final year of B.A. program in psychology, social work or other related human resource field. Bilingual (Spanish-English)
